County Residents Rank Air Quality, Climate Change and Land Use Issues

Results are now available for the Countywide Public Opinion Survey that was conducted in January 2008. The Public Opinion Survey report provides detailed information on the responses from the phone and "volunteer" survey, and evaluates the data on a sub-regional and Countywide basis. More>>

Carl Moyer Grant Program

The San Luis Obispo County Air Pollution Control District (APCD) has issued a Request For Proposals (RFP) for the 2008/2009 Carl Moyer Grant Program to reduce ozone forming and toxic emissions from aging heavy-duty off-road, on-road vehicles and stationary agricultural engines.  $861,610 is available for eligible projects within SLO County.  State allocated Carl Moyer Grant funds and locally generated DMV registration funds (AB 923) are used in this grant program to reduce toxic diesel emissions throughout SLO County.  More

2008/2009 Year Permit Fees And Winery Permitting Stakeholder Meeting

The San Luis Obispo County Air Pollution Control District (District) is holding a stakeholder meeting on Monday, April 14 to share information on budget issues and obtain input on possible solutions to cost increases, including a proposal to increase fees.  A proposal to establish a winery specific permit exemption will also be discussed.  More

Third Annual SLO Community Happening and Bike-In Movie

Come for a “Wheel Experience” at the Third Annual San Luis Obispo Community Happening & Bike-In Movie. This free Family-Friendly, Bike Month event will take place on Friday evening May 9th, 2008.  Bring your bikes and helmets to the San Luis Obispo Mission Plaza meeting location at 6:30pm. At 7:00pm ride leaders will take the group on a courteous downtown bike ride and then to Johnson Park by way of the Morro Street (Bill Roalman) Bicycle Boulevard and Railroad Safety Trail.  There will be prizes, food, and refreshments at the park before the 8:15pm showing of the movie Breaking Away, on the YMCA’s white wall: Lawn seating, dress warmly, and bring your lights for the ride home. Secure bicycle parking will be provided by SLO County Bicycle Coalition. More

MOW DOWN Air Pollution Lawn Mower Exchange Program

San Luis Obispo (SLO) County residents can now register to trade in their old smelly, noisy, gas-guzzling lawn mower with a battery-powered electric lawn mower at less than half the retail price. For more information or to register for an Lawn Mower Exchange Event.  More

Agricultural Engine Grant Program

On January 9, 2008 the San Luis Obispo County Air Pollution Control District hosted a workshop on grant funding opportunities for stationary and some portable agricultural engines. In order to secure these funds for Ag engine replacement projects, the monies must be promptly contracted or these funds will be reallocated to non-ag projects. All Ag projects must submit complete applications to the APCD by February 1, 2008.  More

On December 12, 2007 the San Luis Obispo County Air Pollution Control District hosted a workshop for interested cities and municipalities to learn more about greenhouse gas emissions and how to develop an action plan to reduce those emissions.  Information from the workshop is now available.  More

Agricultural Engine Registration

Agricultural engines 50 horsepower and greater operating in San Luis Obispo County must be registered (or permitted) with the Air District before January 1, 2008.  This requirements is found in District rule 250 (Registration of Agricultural Diesel Engines) and is based on the State's Air Toxic control Measure for Stationary Diesel Engines.  More

Agricultural Engine Incentive Program

Applications are now being accepted to reduce ozone and toxic emissions from stationary agricultural engines Countywide.  The APCD has earmarked $573,175 to replace old stationary agricultural engines with newer cleaner technologies.  Grant funding is available on a first-come, first -serve basis.  More

Nipomo Mesa Particulate Study

Air quality monitoring on the Nipomo Mesa over the past 20 years has shown that the particulate concentrations on the Mesa are significantly higher than other areas of San Luis Obispo County.  A year long particulate monitoring study was initiated by the District from April 2004 through March 2005 to better delineate the nature and extent of the particulate problem observed on the Mesa.  More

Land Use Planning

The California Air Resources Board (CARB) has determined that emission from sources such as roadways and distribution centers and, to a lesser extent gas stations, certain dry cleaners, marine ports and airports can lead to unacceptably high health risk from diesel particulate matter and other toxic substances. The APCD has compiled and maintains a list of such sources within SLO County; this data is available in GIS format. More

The Agricultural Internal Combustion Engine Conversion Incentive Program (AG-ICE) offers reduced electricity rate in exchange for permanently retiring a stationary diesel-driven engine utilized for on-farm irrigation purposes.  More
