Pollution Prevention Program

Calling All Pollution Preventers… Show Us Your Green, Enter Today & Be Recognized Countywide!

The San Luis Obispo County Air Pollution Control District (APCD) is seeking businesses and organizations to "Show Us Your Green" and enter into the 12th annual countywide Pollution Prevention (P2) Week competition. This year’s P2 Week theme "Be Green – Save Green" will be celebrated from September 17 to 23 by spotlighting local businesses or organizations that have implemented innovative and effective strategies to reduce pollution and improve our environment. Throughout P2 Week, all Award Winners will be showcased in a display at the SLO County Government Center, advertised in local newspapers and recognized at the APCD Board of Director’s meeting on September 26.

Pollution Prevention is one approach to protect the environment and the economy by eliminating pollution before it is generated. Qualifying P2 activities can reflect a variety of progressive environmental efforts such as: 1) long-term air or water quality benefits; 2) energy efficiency; 3) land preservation; 4) waste reduction; and/or 5) environmental leadership / public education. P2 Winners will be selected from the entry forms received. In order to be eligible, the project must be located in San Luis Obispo County and must be voluntary in nature. Entries will be judged on the following five criteria: innovation, measurable results, transferability, commitment, and utilization of resources.

Entry forms must be submitted to the APCD by 5 pm on Friday, August 3, 2007. Entry forms are available on the APCD website (www.slocleanair.org), at the APCD office (3433 Roberto Ct., SLO, CA 93401) or at your community library. Completed entry forms can be mailed to the APCD, faxed to 805.781.1002 or completed online at www.slocleanair.org. For more information contact Tim Fuhs or Stacy Shull at 781.5912

Over the past eleven years, more than 55 organizations in San Luis Obispo County have been honored with Pollution Prevention Awards for environmentally friendly business practices and environmental stewardship.
