Air Pollution Control District Sponsors "SOLUTIONS
CONCERT" with Teen Jazz Band
San Luis Obispo, CA – The Air Pollution Control District is
sponsoring a free concert with youth jazz band In Black at the
Mission Plaza on Thursday, June 21st, 7 to 9pm. In Black is from
Sonoma County, California, and their Solutions Tour is designed to
promote awareness of climate change and how individuals can take
action to reverse its effects.
"Education is a key component in SLO County’s Climate Change
Action Plan," states Larry Allen, APCD Director, "We are excited
about the opportunity to partner with a youth jazz band that’s
touring California and motivate local individuals in a fun and
musical way." The APCD will have informational tables, alternative
fuel cars, and other activities available during the concert. If
your organization is interested in participating in this event,
please contact Melissa Guise at 781-4667.
In Black will be promoting the Natural Resource Defense Council’s
Move America Beyond Oil petition, and promoting their own solutions
to the issue of climate change. They will also be soliciting ideas
from the general public, many of which will be posted at the website
of the environmental online magazine Grist, at www.grist.org.
In Black’s Solutions Tour to Southern California will take place
June 20th to June 28th. Traveling in a biodiesel van rented from
VIP Greenride in San Francisco, their tour stops will also
include the Santa Barbara Summer Solstice Festival, the Jazz Bakery
in
Culver City, Disneyland, Universal City Walk and the Los Angeles
Zoo.
The members of the band range in age from 14-16. In Black has
been performing their own unique brand of swing, standards, and
straight-ahead jazz for over 4 years, playing a wide variety of
events in Northern California. The Solutions Tour is In Black’s
first foray into Southern California, and is being sponsored in part
by Clif Bar. For more information, visit their website at
